CMHA Kenora celebrates local children through mental health superhero campaign

(Kenora, January 16th, 2026) — Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Kenora Branch is proud to recognize the creativity and leadership of local children through its Mental Health Superhero Campaign, which invited students from kindergarten to Grade 6 to share what being a “Mental Health Superhero” means to them.

Mental Health Superheroes are people who promote well-being, help create safe spaces to talk about mental health and take action to challenge stigma. Through their drawings, messages and ideas, the children demonstrated how small acts of kindness, listening and empathy can make a big difference.

“The goal of this campaign was to introduce positive mental health practices in an age-appropriate and encouraging way,” said Sara Dias, CEO, CMHA Kenora. “The children showed us that mental health leadership starts early, and their voices remind us of what compassionate communities can look like.”

This project was made possible through the generous support of the Kenora & Lake of the Woods Community Foundation Community Needs Grant, whose contribution helped strengthen children’s voices in a meaningful way.

CMHA Kenora thanks the participating schools and groups:

  • Migisi Sahgaigan
  • Kiizhik School
  • Sakatcheway Anishinabe
  • St. John Paul II School
  • St. John School
  • Evergreen School
  • Valleyview School
  • Sioux Narrows Public School
  • KDSB Summer Camp

The children’s reflections offer an inspiring look at how young people understand mental well-being, and what being a Mental Health Superhero means to them. If you’re interested in seeing their artwork, check out the CMHA Kenora Mental Health Superhero booklet HERE
